another waste of paper

I recieved my new yellow pages mini book this week. 2.2 lbs of paper which at the very least will return to the recycler to hopefully be made into something more worthwhile.

We recently had a power outage for several days and this is one time I could think a phonebook would be useful in this internet connected age but honestly there are very few households without at least 1 smartphone or at least a phone with a basic brower which will work even when the grid is not. I feel that these books are now a pure waste.

stop the madness

I’m tired of receiving these books every year and every year depositing all of that untouched paper directly into the recycling bin. We need to stop the waste and stop it now. I am not saying that the phonebook is without merit, and that there aren’t people out there who still use it, but the US census bureau says that over 90% of Americans have access to the internet in their homes rendering the yellow pages obsolete. Stop burdening the environment with more trash, the city workers and trash collectors who are inundated with discarded phone books, the business community with your pushy sales practices, and the consumer by trying to shove more personal injury attorney ads down our throats.
